The Skinny

The Tommee Tippee Easi-Warm is a product we do not recommend, even though it is a simple and affordable bottle warmer that we wanted to like. It uses water bath technology to quickly bring your baby's meal to a perfect temperature. However, it does not include an auto-shutoff feature or an audible end-of-cycle timer. As a result, we think it is way too easy to accidentally misuse this warmer and end up with unacceptably hot milk. Because of this risk, we do not recommend purchasing the Easi-Warm.
REASONS TO BUY

Very few parts to clean
Fast warm time
REASONS TO AVOID

Our Analysis and Test Results

In the early 1960s, three Californian brothers were in the plastic business when they decided to attempt the creation of a spill-resistant cup for toddlers. The original cup had a weighted bottom to keep it from tipping over, and they named the product after their dog, Tommee. Hence the name Tommee Tippee. A British businessman was one of the first to see the value in this product. He took the idea and turned it into a business entirely devoted to baby and toddler products. Today, Tommee Tippee is part of the Mayborn Group, and their feeding accessories are available worldwide.

Health and Safety

Unfortunately, the Tommee Tippee Easi-Warm has one of the lowest scores for Health and Safety. It utilizes water bath technology, which is a plus in our book, and when strictly following the manufacturer's recommendations, we had no problems with overheating. However, the warmer does not have many safeguard features that protect breastmilk from overheating. The lack of an auto-shutoff and end-of-cycle signal is bad news for distracted parents (many are with a new baby). The warmer keeps on warming until you manually turn it off; however, it is easy to lose track of time, especially if you are tending to a young infant.

The manual states that the recommended time to heat a 5oz bottle to the correct temperature is 5 minutes. In our tests, we found this to be very accurate and consistent, however, it is necessary for you to closely watch the clock or set a timer as a reminder to promptly remove the bottle from the water bath, or you risk continuously rising temperatures. Milk temperatures rose to >113F/45C after just 7 minutes, leaving just a 2-minute window of wiggle room. At the end of our 12-minute test, the highest recorded temperature was 130F/54C, using the recommended setting. When cranked to the highest setting, temps topped out at 142F/61C. Both temperatures are unacceptable, in our opinion.

Ease of Use

Coming in with an average score for Ease-of-Use, the Easi-Warm has only one dial and three settings: off, low, and high. It does not require any assembly before the first use, and it is pretty easy to figure out. The manual has a clear timetable with recommendations for different sizes of bottles and different start temperatures. The lack of fail-safe features like auto-shutoff and end-of-cycle signal hurt this warmer's score in this metric. While this machine's overall operation is straightforward, there is a lot of room for error or accidents.

We tested the Easi-Warm with our standard 4oz Lifefactory Glass Bottle with a silicone sleeve.

We like that the warmer is large enough to accommodate a variety of bottles and food jars. However, it is not compatible with breast milk storage bags. It is also easy to fill, as you just pour water directly into the warming chamber, but we wish there was a fill line to prevent any spills from overfilling.

Warming Efficiency

In the warming efficiency metric, the Easi-Warm earned a score that is slightly above average. True to its claims, refrigerated milk can be heated to body temperature in just over 5 minutes. This is faster than many options in our review; however, it continues to rise just as quickly if left for too long. When thinking in practical terms, if you have to throw away overheated breastmilk and start fresh with a new bottle, it is much less efficient than just getting it right the first time.

Ease of Cleaning

This simply constructed bottle warmer earned an above-average cleaning score. There are very few cracks and crevices to harbor gunk or bacteria buildup, and it is easy to wipe the entire machine with a damp cloth. Tommee Tippee has precise descaling instructions in the manual, and it is recommended that you complete this process every 7, 14, or 21 days depending on the hardness of your water. The warmer must be emptied after every use, which allows it to dry completely and eliminates the possibility of mildew growth.
