The average fetus at week 26 is approximately 14 inches from the top of the head to the bottom, and he weighs almost 2 pounds. The nervous system and brain continue to develop, and she might even begin practicing the sucking reflex on her thumb or fingers.

The baby will likely increase movement and practice kicking skills during this period. They will begin to do more kicking, flipping, and punching as they explore their confined space. It is not uncommon to see the shape of your belly change with each movement or to be able to feel the kicks from the outside. Inviting Dad to feel the baby move can help him bond with the baby inside the womb, so he stays engaged in the magic of pregnancy. Because each baby is different, there is no "correct" or set amount of kicks to expect, so don't be alarmed if your baby moves less than others or more than a previous baby. What you should notice is changes in movement patterns. Any sudden changes in the movement should be reported to your doctor immediately.
